INTERVIEW: Lips and Prints Creator Sophia Gall Previews NYFW F/W 2019

With NY Fashion Week upon us we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve partnered with Lips and Prints creator Sophia Gall for exclusive coverage of the Fall/Winter 2019 events and beyond. We had a chance to catch up with Sophia to learn more about her love for fashion and what she’s most excited to see at fashion week this season.

Where did your love for fashion come from? Who were those style icons growing up that you really connected with?

SOPHIA: My love for fashion definitely comes from my mom and my grandmother. My grandmother is a seamstress and used to make her own clothes! She is very fashionable and never wears the same thing twice! She passed this love of fashion down to my mother and then down to me. My mom is a huge style icon for me. Growing up she always encouraged me to be unique and wear whatever I wanted. She even passed on some vintage pieces to me. I love looking at old photos from her in the 80’s in NYC and seeing how those trends are now making a comeback today. I think history definitely repeats itself in the fashion world!

Fashion can connect to people in many different ways. Describe what fashion means to you as a whole.

SOPHIA: Fashion is very personal and emotional. I use fashion as a way to communicate how I’m feeling or how I want to feel on any given day. I’ve studied Color Theory and it is actually very interesting how people perceive your personality just based off what color you’re wearing. For example, if you’re wearing yellow, you’re more likely to be perceived as approachable and friendly. It’s those kind of things that make fashion so special to me and why I find it so fascinating.

In respect to the celebrities of today, who has really brought a great sense of style these days?

SOPHIA: I’ve never seen Blake Lively have a bad moment on a red carpet! To me she always looks flawless, feminine and effortless.

Talk about the creation of your blog Lips and Prints. What inspired it and what do you hope people get out of it?

SOPHIA: I created Lips and Prints as an outlet for me to talk about what I love talking about most – beauty and fashion! I’ve always been a huge lipstick addict and in terms of my style I love a bold print like leopard or florals. I decided to bring both of my loves together and that’s how Lips and Prints came to be. I hope people find Lips and Prints to be a place where they can discover affordable beauty and fashion looks and just have fun browsing my virtual makeup bag and closet! It’s all about fun.

I love how Lips and Prints not only covers fashion but has a natural tie in with wellness. How important is that for you?

SOPHIA: Health and wellness is very important for me. I’m a huge believer that beauty shines through from the inside out. It’s so important to focus on our mental and physical health as well as develop an awareness of what we are putting into our bodies. I’m a huge proponent of using products that are free from any toxic chemicals like parabens and fragrances so it’s really exciting to see beauty brands moving in this direction. At the end of the day I think wellness is really just taking a moment to breathe and do something for yourself
