An interview with Love, Alexa

“I was super inspired by this Two Feet song called ‘Go Fuck Yourself’ and I kept singing this melody over it ‘but let me see what you can do with those hands.’ so I went into the studio with my awesome producer Mark Evans and we wanted to go a little outside the box with it so after the second chorus we created this breakdown that sounds like it’s a different song yet sounds cohesive all at the same time. super unique and out of that came this sensual, sexy song about impatience.”

“I write love notes which are essentially little poems and random shit I make up in my mind and those inspire songs. So each song is prefaced by a number which corresponds to the real life love note that inspired that track. It’s about creating a world and an experience rather than just song by song. I write very honestly.. sometimes a little too honest but it’s the only way I know how to write and I want to give that same feeling my favorite artists gave to me which was to feel safe and understood.”

“Music!! You can expect music. End of January i’m releasing a moody, electric guitar based cover of “Tainted Love.” There’s other exciting news with that but I’m gonna leave you on the edge of your seat. After that I will be releasing singles backed by visuals. As an independent artist, I’ve been working so hard to get all of this done and it’s not easy but it’s so worth it. I’m just – I’m very happy. These songs are very special to me, they’re really special. and I just can’t wait for you guys to hear them. It’s gonna be really cool.”

“um Harry Styles’ new album. Oh my god I have no shame. I love it. I was at his concert last night at the forum when he brought Stevie Nicks out to sing “Landslide,” everyone was crying. Literally everyone was crying it was so beautiful. I’ve also been loving some oldies music too. Frank Sinatra, can never go wrong with him. Billie Holiday. Beatles. I’ve been studying a lot of their songwriting because it’s brilliant and simple in the best way. Joni Mitchell knows how to make me cry too. “both sides now” …goner.”

“I write very honestly and I write a lot when there’s things going on emotionally. That’s kind of when my best writing comes out and when I find that perfect lyric or that perfect melody that explains what’s going on there’s no better feeling. There is literally no better high than creating that. It’s gotten me through a lot of very dark places in my life and I think a lot of people can relate when I say that I wouldn’t be here without music. I would not be who I am if i did not have music.”
