An interview with Bryar
I actually started writing “Still Lie” four years ago. I had just moved to LA, I remember sitting on my bed feeling so frustrated with myself because it felt like no matter how hard I tried to do the right thing I always ended up hurting someone. That’s where the line “feel like I’ve got a monster in my head” came from. Then the rest flowed from there. It was one of those songs that almost wrote itself. Maybe a month after I wrote it, I signed a deal with a small label and the song was left to sit and wait in my voice memos. When I moved to Nashville a year ago, now fully independent, I knew I finally wanted to put it out and I’m so shocked and excited about all the great response it’s gotten. I’m so grateful to my collaborators Anna Renne and Austin Bianco who brought that song back to life! I can’t wait to continue to share more music.
For me, music is all about being honest and vulnerable. With each song I want to create space for my fans to be able to let go, feel seen and know that they’re not alone. My goal with my music is to put into words these hard and complicated emotions we all secretly deal with. In this age of social media, the need for authenticity is at an all time high. So my goal is always to just be real and honest… which isn’t always easy but I think it’s very important.
More music! I’ve been working really hard behind the scenes with some amazingly talented producers and writers here in Nashville. I’ll be releasing a lot of new songs starting with a new single in February called “Just Me”. It’s about my own journey to loving myself and not being afraid of being alone.
I’m currently obsessed with “If The World Was Ending” by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels. It’s just so damn good. Then a secret guilty pleasure jam would definitely be “Lose You To Love Me” by Selena Gomez.
Working with Finneas… which I’m sure is everyone’s answer! His production is so innovative and emotive I simply adore it. And on top of it all, he’s an amazing songwriter.
Music has always been this amazing outlet for me to express whatever I’m feeling or going through. I’ve been writing songs since I was eight years old and I can’t imagine life without songwriting. I love the way music connects us; its real world magic. There’s a euphoria to writing that I don’t experience with anything else. I’m honestly hooked! I’m honored that I get to make music and share it! I’m truly so grateful.
“I’m jealous of the rain that falls upon your skin, it’s closer than my hands have been, I’m jealous of the rain.” – “Jealous” by Labrinth …. I mean honestly I could quote that whole song for this answer. In my opinion it doesn’t get much better than that. My heart tears every time I listen to it.
