NXTSTYLE’s 2020 Songs of the Summer: Chris Avantgarde ft. Red Rosamond “Inside”

INTRODUCING NXTSTYLE’S ‘SONGS OF THE SUMMER,’ HIGHLIGHTING OUR FAVORITE TRACKS WE’VE DISCOVERED THIS SUMMER. OVER 70 SONGS FROM NEW AND INDEPENDENT ARTISTS FORM OUR SUMMER 2020 SOUNDTRACK. TODAY WE FEATURE RED ROSAMOND, FEATURED SINGER AND SONGWRITER OF THE THE CHRIS AVANTGARDE SINGLE “INSIDE”. WE WERE REALLY INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE UNIQUE JOURNEY TO SUCCESS THIS SONG TOOK. TAKE A LOOK AS RED GIVES US THE DETAILS AND MORE IN OUR FEATURED INTERVIEW.

I LOVED SEEING THE RELEASE OF “INSIDE” UNFOLD. FROM A SURPRISE PLACEMENT ON THE NETFLIX SHOW DARK TO TOPPING THE CHARTS ON SHAZAM IT REALLY MUST HAVE BEEN THE BEST KIND OF NEWS CONSIDERING THE CIRCUMSTANCES WE’RE DEALING WITH THIS YEAR. WHAT HAS THE SUCCESS OF THIS SONG MEANT TO YOU?

I am so grateful for the overwhelming love and support from around the world with the release of “Inside” … One of the coolest parts about it being included in DARK, the audience who found me who are located globally. To be able to reach so many people from different backgrounds and lives is such a beautiful feeling. Not to mention my husband and I LOVE the show. It was a surreal moment to hear my voice in this stunning world Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese created. The most rewarding part about it all is that both Chris and I wrote this song from an authentic place after we met and connected on many levels with our own experiences in the music industry. It was actually the last session I did before we moved from Los Angeles back to Canada where I am from. Chris and I have similar frustrations and found that we shared many values and beliefs artistically and otherwise. We wrote this song with a desire to create something artistic that meant something to us and the world responded. So much so that it was the #1 searched for song on Television through TuneFind. If that isn’t positive affirmation to stick to our guns I don’t know what is. Shout out to Liz Gallacher, the badass musical director on the show who heard our song and chose it. She did an interview with TuneFind and said that “Inside” summed up the world of DARK… As a writer and a fan that felt pretty awesome.

AUGUST IS A MONTH THAT IS PRIME FOR MANIFESTING. WHAT’S ONE THING MUSICALLY OR PERSONALLY YOU HOPE TO HAPPEN IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

This past year I have been learning music production. More than anything I’m manifesting a collection of songs that I write and produce myself. I want to have more of a relationship with my fans and start playing live (for now online) I want to build my Youtube subscribers and utilize the platform as a way to connect audio/visually with my fans. I want my at home studio setup to have a few more components than it does now ( full scale keyboard with weighted keys, some choice plug ins, a better mic, a new computer, a pro isolated vocal booth etc.) I am manifesting collaborations with David Lynch, Angelo Badalamenti & Bon Iver. I would love to have a conversation with Danny Elfman (Composer for all of Tim Burtons Movies). I am also manifesting that my husband and I will build our dream home & Creativity Lab. I aim to live a life thriving from my art.

YOUR TOP 5 SONGS THIS SUMMER:

I don’t have favorite songs but I have been heavily inspired by: Bohren der Club of Gore, a German ambient, dark, Jazz band. They are masters of mood. I have been listening to Angelo Badalamenti… The Godfather of mood. Italian born American composer for many things and notably David Lynch’s main collaborator. As you can see I have been gearing up to produce some mooooooody music this year for an audio/visual project I am working on.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RELEASES OR PROJECTS OF ANY KIND LINED UP FOR THE REMAINING MONTHS OF 2020?

Oh yes. Chase and I are working together to create a series of Audio/visual pieces of art… mini visual albums. First, an animated visual album of all the songs I created but never got to release in Los Angeles because my deal got dropped; 50% of all the songs ownership got taken with the dissolution. The album entitled “Funeral Flowers” is a group of songs that I collaborated on with a bunch of pop producers while living and working in Hollywood. It is a distinct body of work that I am proud of but also look forward to moving past. L.A. was filled with many highs and lows. I wanted to honor the songs and the collaborators who took a risk on me and release the work in a way that showcases its uniqueness. I will be doing so through live streams on my Youtube channel. No idea if I will end up posting the animation permanently on my channel after the live events. Following the animation (possible 2021 releases depending on funding) I am currently working on a new body of work that dives deep into emotional depths. Something that I have not done in such a totality in a long time. After working as a songwriter in L.A. for the past 7 years with a pop publisher I grew weary. I needed to re visit my roots and write by myself and be completely vulnerable. I needed to regain confidence in myself as a standalone creator. Without rules to structure, to be able to purely channel music no matter what form it takes. I started playing the piano again, something I did hours on end as a child. I am not classically trained but I can channel emotion. Coupled with learning how to self-produce with the help of YouTube and colleagues/friends I have embarked on something I have never done before: Creating a body of work that I write, arrange, produce and release on my own. Chase will be shooting the film that will accompany it and together our aim is to utilize YouTube as a platform to share our art on our terms. We plan on creating 3 short films/visual albums.

IS THERE A CHARITY THAT MEANS A LOT TO YOU THAT YOU URGE OTHERS TO LOOK INTO? ANY PARTICULAR CONNECTION YOU HAVE TO IT?

More so than any particular charity I urge everyone to please be active (however that looks for them) in educating, re-educating ourselves and others and continuing our ongoing responsibility to fight for the lives and equality of our Black brothers and sisters.
