NXTSTYLE’s 2020 New Music Guide: Luke Wylde
Australian producer and artist Luke Wylde came through in a BIG way in 2019 with a next level Soul single “Save Yourself” featuring Rhea Robertson. A collaboration for the books as they both work off each other seamlessly. We had a chance to talk to Luke about the process of creating this song with Rhea and much more in our interview below!
An interview with Luke Wylde
“Save Yourself” started in Chicago while I was out there on a writing camp, it was just a loop of an acoustic guitar and vocal humms I recorded on my iPhone, chopped that shit up and went from there. I started the concept with some Chicago writers before I even started working with Rhea. Then once Rhea and I started working together again I had to get her on it. So we got in finished the song and the rest is history. I’m always writing rough ideas for songs and then waiting for the right artist to be the final piece of that puzzle and “Save Yourself” is a dope example of that.
I just want people to feel something, I want the listener to be immersed in the world I’ve created. As for who I am as an artist, I don’t really know actually, my songs are more of a look into the messed up mind of myself as an artist haha. But at the end of the day I just want fans to enjoy them.
I’m actually working on a lot of songs at the moment, a lot of my own vocal records and expanding on stories and tryna push boundaries. I have no clue what the end result will be but I can say it will be different and dope, I hope! Also a bunch more joints from Swamp and Rhea.
Aside from my crews music I been listening to new acts like Saint Agnes, Bones UK, Slowthai, Fuctape, Deathbyromy and Dana Dentata. Been dipping back into early Marylin Manson shit. I also listen to Kanye, Wu-Tang, Eminem and Gravediggaz damn near every week haha.
I dunno bout in 2020 but my dream would be to work with Kanye, the RZA and Quentin Tarantino, they are my biggest inspirations in music but fuck knows if that will ever happen haha, fingers bloody crossed.
Music is everything to me, its a voice for me when I don’t feel like I have one, it’s my language. Especially coming from the DJ background making mashups and mixes I really learned to communicate my story through my artistic inspirations, almost like a ransom note.
I’d have to say the lyrics from “Save Yourself”.. “Im trying to escape but the thoughts keep chasing” really hits home for me, I find creative expression also comes with a great deal of anxiety. I’m either honing in on the thoughts and using them in a productive and creative way or I’m hanging onto them in my personal life a little too much haha. I guess you gotta take the bad with the good tho.
