An interview with Red Rosamond

I am a musical shape shifter. Over the years I have written and been inspired by so many different places, moods, genres. Music for me is freedom. It’s the ability to be as creative as humanly possible. I don’t want to make the same thing twice. I have no interest in that. I want to bring new things in, push the envelope and never look to my left or right, front or back when wondering if what I am making is good. I really embrace the now. Whatever is moving me at the moment I gravitate towards, no judgement. When I was younger I was so worried that no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t find the box I fit into and wanted to stay in. I thought that in order to be iconic you had to stick with that one thing you did best and keep doing it. I’m not wired that way and so I’ve since surrendered that idea. Ultimate Freedom. To me, the person who finds my music, connects with it and sticks around for the ride is someone with an open mind and someone who celebrates individuality, creativity and innovation. No matter what genre, everything I make comes from my heart. To me, that’s what matters most.

I am about to release snippets of an unreleased album called ‘Funeral Flowers’ I wrote over the past two years while still in California. It was intended to be released last year but was caught up in Industry drama and never got the green light. So much time has passed since writing it and so many emotions I am still processing around the whole back end business bs that I am on the fence about releasing it. It’s hard to explain why I feel this way but sometimes in life when things carry a heavy reminder of negativity it can be difficult to revisit. I do however want to honor everyone who worked on the project with me and believed in my vision. I got to work with some of the best producers in LA and they all put their faith into what I was going for. So we will see. I think by putting out little pieces of it I will get a read on if I should go ahead and put it out or if it’s time to close that chapter and move on. Either way 20/20 will bring new work. I’ve already started putting together new songs, vastly different from ‘Funeral Flowers‘. I’ll also be releasing a body of art work. Beyond that only time will tell.
