An interview with MUNNYCAT

K808: We wanted to make a song that was reminiscent of those dreamy, sexy summer nights that we’ve experience living [in the San Fernando Valley]. It’s a hypnotic, girl-crush, keep-the-party-going song about those times where you see someone across the room and you just have to know who they are.

Khaledzou: Making that song was pretty effortless. We just kinda blinked and it happened. Cutting that chip chopped guitar part was really fun too.

K808: We like making music that inspires other artists (of any kind) to make some art. Music, video, graphic design, dance, writing, photography – whatever. Just don’t over think it. And don’t be afraid to be weird.

Khaledzou: We’re pretty DIY, so we write, and record our own songs, and we make our own videos. We hope that other people might see us doing that and realize they can too.

Khaledzou: We are just finishing a music video for our latest single “MILLIONAIRE (jz + bncé)” that we shot in an abandoned water park in the desert. It’ll be our in January. It’s gunna be dope and we are real excited to share it.

K808: We also have a single called “The Bygone Goodbye” coming out in February. It’s like a dirty disco-pop banger and it actually has a little more Khaledzou vocals than usual. I’m super excited ‘cause he wails.

Khaledzou: After that, we are putting out an EP or a full length (depending on what feels right). We are sitting on a bunch of newly finished songs and we are dying because we wanna get em out the door to everyone.

K808: We’ve been really diggin the new Grimes “4ÆM”. The new Selena Gomez “Lose You To Love Me” is just beautiful.

Khaledzou: Rosalía’s song “a Palé” thumps. I’m still on that new Flume record, Flatbush Zombies, oh and jpegmafia – “Jesus Forgive Me, I Am a Thot” is still on repeat.

Khaledzou: I’ve always dreamt of working with The Bomb Squad – Hank and Keith Shocklee. Liam Howlett from prodigy and of course the hero Rick Rubin.

K808: Rosalía, Ariana Grande. When the Spice Girls produce their next record.. I am in! I would love to work with Flume and see how his brain works. Always blowing us away and we love the way he uses non-instruments as instruments.

Khaledzou: For me, one of my faves is “Old before your time” by Ray Lamontagne. The whole song is incredible, but the first thing that came to mind when you asked was the part that’s like..

“Through the years I’ve known my share of broken hearted fools
And those who couldn’t choose a path worth taking
There’s nothin’ in the world so sad as talking to a man
Who never knew his life was his for making
Ain’t it about time you realize? It’s not worth keepin’ score
You win some, you lose some and you let it go
What’s the use of stacking on every failure, another stone
Till you find you’ve spent your whole life building walls”

I mean.. come on. That’s just perfect.

K808: I have 2 very favorite lines from other artists that I’ll never fall out of love with. One is an entire song – “That I Would Be Good” by Alanis Morissette. I have it tattooed on my arm! I can’t choose a line, so here’s the whole thing.

“That I would be good, even if I did nothing
That I would be good, even if I got the thumbs down
That I would be good if I got and stayed sick
That I would be good even if I gained ten pounds
That I would be fine even if I went bankrupt
That I would be good if I lost my hair and my youth
That I would be great if I was no longer queen
That I would be grand if I was not all knowing
That I would be loved even when I numb myself
That I would be good even when I am overwhelmed
That I would be loved even when I was fuming
That I would be good even if I was clingy
That I would be good even if I lost sanity
That I would be good
Whether with or without you”

The other one is a Hannah Montana song. You ready? “Life’s what you make it so let’s make it rock” 🙂 I think it and sing it all the time.
