An interview with Kenya Grace

How did ``Tell Me Why`` come together?

I came up with “Tell Me Why” one evening when I was a bit tipsy after I had a fight with someone! I just wanted to get my feelings of frustration out but ended up really liking what I had written! I then spent some time after that smoothing some lyrics out etc. But I really liked how raw and emotional it was when I first recorded it! Then it was mixed and mastered by @jessrainprod.

What do you want fans to take from your music and who you are as an artist?

I always hope my music is healing because I really try and be as raw and as honest as possible. I think the best way to begin healing is expressing your emotions and music really helps me do that so I hope it helps others too

What can fans expect from you in 2020?

In 2020 I have a lot of planned releases and shows as I’m working with a team now to try and get my music heard by more people! I think some festivals will definitely be on the cards too.

What new songs from other artists are you loving right now?

I’m really loving Raveena and I’m loving Tiana Major9 and EARTHGANG’s track “Collide”! Such amazing artists.

What artist or producer would you most love to collaborate with in 2020?

My biggest dream collaboration would be with Flume, he is probably my biggest inspiration. I think he is an absolute genius! Not sure that will happen in 2020 but a gal can dream hehe.

What does music mean to you?

Music is absolutely everything to me, its my emotional outlet and the thing that makes me the most happy! it makes me feel free and like I’m connecting with my emotions and people. I genuinely don’t think I would be able to live without it haha! Sounds very dramatic.

A favorite line in a song that you really connect with:

My favourite lyric would have to be in the banks song “Contaminated”“and I wish I could change it but we’re always gonna be contaminated”. I think this is so clever and I have related to this so many times.
