About Album

Charlz

Australian singer/songwriter Charlz received a lot of love for her standout single “Amaze Me” including well-deserved airplay on Beats1. The single is one of our favorites from 2019 so we had to get in touch with Charlz to see what she has going on in 2020 and more!

An interview with Charlz

How did ``Amaze Me`` come together?

My friend and collaborator, Lliam Taylor, sent me the beat to “Amaze Me”. At the time I was going through some relationship struggles and so I wrote “Amaze Me” as almost a declaration to myself to not settle for a relationship that didn’t amaze me.

What do you want fans to take from your music and who you are as an artist?

I would like people to experience my art and feel connected to the aesthetic part of life- to take a moment to move away from the linear and structured society and tap into the beauty that exists around us. Ultimately I just want to create an enjoyable moment for someone when they take the time to listen to my music.

What can fans expect from you in 2020?

2020 is an exciting time for me. I have many new realms of releases happening. I will be putting out my next Charlz single early in the year, as well as the first single from a new collaboration project with Melbourne artist Luboku dropping in March. I have been writing music for film and tv as part of the group Classic Fiction, and recently had a song in HBO show Mrs Fletcher– we have lots more happening in 2020 for Classic Fiction.

What new songs from other artists are you loving right now?

Right now some of the tracks i’m loving- new release from MDWS, Lena, “Late Night Feelings” by Mark Ronson and Lykke Li, and “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” by Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson.

What artist or producer would you most love to collaborate with in 2020?

Aside from the amazing collaborators who i’m already working with in 2020, the dream collab would be Kaytranada. I love his beats and rhythm that offset a super sweet pop melody into a tasty little indie pop track.

What does music mean to you?

To me music is like a friend that is a part of me. It’s been like a set of train tracks that run steadily in front of me in this life. Things change, people come and go, but creating music has always been there. It’s my tradable skill, it’s my connection to the world and its my clearest and most truthful communication.

A favorite line in a song that you really connect with:

I love beautiful abstract lyrics that depict something visual.

“Seven worlds will collide, whenever i’m by your side. Dust from a distant sun, will shower over everyone.”“Distant Sun” by Crowded House
