TODAY WE FEATURE SEINT MONET. THE SINGER/SONGWRITER BASED OUT OF NEW JERSEY CAUGHT OUR ATTENTION LATE IN THE SUMMER WITH HER FLOATING SINGLE “BLOOM”. WE GOT A CHANCE TO TALK TO HER ABOUT THE SINGLE, IDEAL PLACEMENTS AND MORE IN OUR FEATURED INTERVIEW.

“BLOOM” IS YOUR FIRST SINGLE AND ONE THAT REALLY SHOWS A LOT OF MATURITY FOR A DEBUT. TAKE US BEHIND THE CREATION OF THE SONG AND YOUR CONNECTION TO IT. WHAT ABOUT THIS SONG MADE IT THE PERFECT INTRODUCTION TO YOUR MUSIC?

In February, my manager Matt and I hosted a writer’s retreat at the Jersey Shore and invited a mix of writers and producers from Nashville, New York, and New Jersey. “Bloom” was written by Camden Mueller, Johnluke Lewis (who also produced it), Mia Shelton, and Miette Hope. It discusses the beginning of a relationship and the uncertainty that comes with it. Though it focuses on the blooming of a relationship, it also feels like a testament to the start of Seint Monet’s career. When “Bloom” was written, I knew right away I wanted it to be the first single because it is so fitting for who Seint Monet is as an artist and brand.

WHEN LISTENING TO “BLOOM” I CAN SEE PARTS OF THIS FITTING A COMMERCIAL FOCUSED ON WOMEN’S SELF-CARE PRODUCTS LIKE SECRET DEODORANT OR GILLETTE VENUS WOMEN’S RAZORS AND BEYOND. IF YOU HAD A CHOICE, WHAT WOULD BE THE ULTIMATE SYNC PLACEMENT FOR “BLOOM”?

I had never thought about “Bloom” being in a commercial like that, but now that you mention it, I absolutely agree. I think the ultimate sync placement for this song would be anything associated with high fashion, like a Gucci ad. We created Seint Monet with a very solid brand focusing on art and fashion, so anything in that realm would be fantastic. I’ve also been told that it would work well in a perfume ad!

GETTING TO THE ROOT OF WHO SEINT MONET IS, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTRY AND THE PURPOSE YOU WANT TO BRING TO FANS? ARE THERE ANY ARTISTS THAT YOU LOOK UP TO THAT PLAY AN INFLUENCE ON YOUR MUSIC?

Great question. When it comes to sound, Seint Monet is very much a mix of genres. Our goal with this project was to create a universe consisting of original sound, brand, visuals, etc. Each song we will be releasing shows a different side of who Seint Monet is as an artist. We’re still very much experimenting with sound and vision while keeping everything cohesive. I really look up to Lady GaGa, for obvious reasons. She is always changing her sound and look, while staying true to herself. I hope to do the same thing.

WITH THE CHALLENGES OF THE PANDEMIC, HAS IT ALTERED YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON LIFE AND RELATIONSHIPS? DO YOU SEE IT INFLUENCING WHAT YOU WRITE ABOUT?

The past few months have made me realize how important your relationships are, especially family. I have always been immersed in my work, and while my career is one of the most important things to me, my achievements are nothing without my family. Every one of my dreams could come true, but if I don’t have the people I love by my side, it’s not as fulfilling. I’ve definitely seen the pandemic indirectly influencing my writing, in a surprisingly positive way. I haven’t written much about the actual pandemic itself, but I’ve been using the free time the challenge myself with my writing.

WITH MORE DOWN TIME THIS YEAR DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, PEOPLE HAVE PLACED THEIR ENERGY ON THINGS THEY PREVIOUSLY DIDN’T HAVE TIME TO FOCUS ON. WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU’VE BEEN ABLE TO CONNECT WITH THAT YOU WOULDN’T NORMALLY HAVE TIME FOR OR EVEN THINK ABOUT?

I’ve always been interested in fashion and have been teaching myself how to sew. I’m taking it very slowly, step by step, since it’s a lot harder than it looks. My stylist and good friend Kathryn Hurtado is unreal when it comes to anything fashion-related. For our most recent video shoot, she couldn’t find a corset online that she liked, so she just made one! It inspired me to start learning.

FAST FORWARD SEVERAL MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD. THE VACCINE IS HERE, AMERICA HAS FULLY OPENED! WHAT’S FIRST ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?

TRAVELING. Going back to L.A. for sessions. Doing work at coffee shops! The thing I miss most is the atmosphere when you go out in Nashville. I can’t wait to experience that again.

OF THE TALENTED ARTISTS, SONGWRITERS, AND PRODUCERS OUT THERE, IS THERE SOMEONE YOU WOULD REALLY LOVE TO COLLABORATE WITH NEXT?

There are so many talented people out there, I have a whole list of who I’d love to work with. My go-to answer is Anderson .Paak. I admire him so much as not only an artist but as a person. He seems like so much fun, and I have a good feeling that if we got into the studio together we would create something really original.

AS WE HEAD INTO THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR, WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM YOU FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2020?

“Bloom” is just the beginning of what Seint Monet will be releasing into the world. My team and I have an absurd amount of content (music, videos, visuals, graphics, merch, etc.) to put out. We have two more singles coming out in the next few weeks and then a six song EP on September 25th.
