UK singer/songwriter Kenya Grace had us with her sultry single “Tell Me Why”. We had a chance to talk with the ‘The NEXT 100’ artist about her music, what she’s listening to, and much more in our interview below!
I came up with “Tell Me Why” one evening when I was a bit tipsy after I had a fight with someone! I just wanted to get my feelings of frustration out but ended up really liking what I had written! I then spent some time after that smoothing some lyrics out etc. But I really liked how raw and emotional it was when I first recorded it! Then it was mixed and mastered by @jessrainprod.
I always hope my music is healing because I really try and be as raw and as honest as possible. I think the best way to begin healing is expressing your emotions and music really helps me do that so I hope it helps others too
In 2020 I have a lot of planned releases and shows as I’m working with a team now to try and get my music heard by more people! I think some festivals will definitely be on the cards too.
My biggest dream collaboration would be with Flume, he is probably my biggest inspiration. I think he is an absolute genius! Not sure that will happen in 2020 but a gal can dream hehe.
Music is absolutely everything to me, its my emotional outlet and the thing that makes me the most happy! it makes me feel free and like I’m connecting with my emotions and people. I genuinely don’t think I would be able to live without it haha! Sounds very dramatic.
My favourite lyric would have to be in the banks song “Contaminated” – “and I wish I could change it but we’re always gonna be contaminated”. I think this is so clever and I have related to this so many times.
